Homeowner/Customer Terms

Effective Date: October 14, 2026  |  Version 1.0

These Homeowner/Customer Terms ("Customer Terms") apply to you if you create a HammerDuck account to post a home-service project and receive bids ("Customer," "you," or "your"). These Customer Terms supplement, and are incorporated into, the HammerDuck Terms of Service; where the Terms of Service speak generally and these Customer Terms speak specifically to your use as a Customer, these Customer Terms control. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meaning given in the Terms of Service.

1. Using HammerDuck Is Free, and Hiring Anyone Is Your Choice

Posting a project, receiving bids, messaging a Contractor, scheduling a visit, and leaving a review cost you nothing and never require a payment card. Nothing on the Platform obligates you to hire any Contractor who bids on your project, and you are always free to cancel your project instead of hiring anyone.

2. HammerDuck’s Role — What It Is Not

HammerDuck is a venue that lets you post a project and receive bids from independent home-service businesses. HammerDuck is not a party to any work you agree to have performed, does not employ, supervise, or direct any Contractor, and does not verify a Contractor’s license, insurance, identity, background, or the quality of any Contractor’s work — everything a Contractor tells you about their credentials is self-reported. Before you hire anyone, you are responsible for your own due diligence: ask for proof of license and insurance, check references, and confirm with your local licensing authority if you have any doubt. In Georgia, license status for many trades can be checked at sos.ga.gov (Secretary of State professional licensing boards); in South Carolina, at llr.sc.gov (Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation). Obtaining any building permit required for your project is your responsibility and the Contractor’s, not HammerDuck’s.

HammerDuck does not hold, escrow, or guarantee any payment for your project, and is not a party to your contract with a Contractor. The price, written agreement, deposit, payment schedule, and payment itself are matters exclusively between you and the Contractor you choose to hire, and HammerDuck bears no responsibility for a payment dispute, non-payment, incomplete work, property damage, or any other dispute arising from that relationship.

3. Posting a Project

When you post a project you provide a title, category and, optionally, a more specific job type, your city/area and county (limited to the counties HammerDuck currently serves), a budget range or "I don’t know," a description (you may use the optional AI "Help me describe this" tool), dimensions, your desired timeline, photos of the home, and a private block containing your street address, contact name, phone number, and e-mail. Only the public fields — title, category, job type, city/area, county, budget, description, dimensions, and timeline — appear on the open job board; Contractors additionally see your photos. Your street address, name, phone, and e-mail stay private until you reply to a Contractor, accept a Contractor’s bid, or confirm a visit with a Contractor, as described in Section 5.

Posting a project notifies Contractors whose trades and counties match your project that a new job is available, using only the public fields listed above; your private block — street address, contact name, phone number, and e-mail — is never included in that notification and is released to a Contractor only under the contact-release rule in Section 5.

Once a Contractor has bid on your project, its public fields are locked. If you need to change the title, description, category, budget, dimensions, county, or area, cancel the project and repost it; cancelling notifies every Contractor who had bid that the project is not going ahead. Bidding does not charge a Contractor anything, so there is nothing to refund — cancelling and reposting costs you nothing either.

If you have not accepted a bid within 30 days after posting, your project closes automatically. HammerDuck reminds you in the app and by e-mail five days before, and you can keep the project open for another 30 days, as many times as you like. Contractors who bid are told when a project closes. A closed project cannot be reopened, but you can post it again at no cost.

4. Reviewing Bids and Hiring

Contractors who serve your trade and county will see your project and may bid on it, including a site-visit bid where a Contractor proposes an in-person visit instead of a firm price. You choose whether to accept any bid; accepting one bid marks your project "awarded" and automatically declines every other bid. HammerDuck does not rank, recommend, or steer any Contractor to you, and a Contractor’s Founding Contractor badge, if shown, reflects early membership only and is not an endorsement of quality by HammerDuck.

5. Your Privacy and the Contact-Release Rule

Your street address, name, phone number, and e-mail are never shown to a Contractor just because that Contractor is viewing or has bid on your project. They become visible to a specific Contractor only when you message that Contractor, accept that Contractor’s bid, or confirm a visit proposed by either of you. Once released to a Contractor for your project, that Contractor may contact you directly about that project; HammerDuck does not mask phone numbers or record calls. You will see a notice in the conversation confirming when and why a Contractor has your contact details.

6. Scheduling

Once a Contractor has bid on your project, either of you may propose a site visit, a measuring visit, a start-of-work date, or another meeting; only the other party can accept or decline a proposal, and either of you may withdraw or cancel one before it is confirmed. HammerDuck describes a confirmed visit as "confirmed with the Pro," not "booked" — HammerDuck does not dispatch the Contractor, does not guarantee the Contractor will arrive, and is not a party to the appointment.

7. Reviews

After you accept a Contractor’s bid, you may leave one rating (one to five stars) and an optional written review of that Contractor for that project, and you may later edit your own rating and text. The Contractor may post one public reply. Your review should reflect your own genuine experience; do not post a review for a project you did not actually award, and do not accept anything of value from a Contractor in exchange for a review. HammerDuck may remove a review under the circumstances described in the Terms of Service.

8. Photos You Submit

By uploading a photo of your home or project, you grant HammerDuck the license described in the Terms of Service to display that photo to Contractors reviewing your project and, where applicable, to the Contractor you hire. You represent that you have the right to share the photo and that it does not show an identifiable person, including a child, without that person’s (or their parent’s or guardian’s) consent.

9. Safety

You are meeting an independent business you have not previously worked with, often at your own home. HammerDuck recommends you verify a Contractor’s license and insurance before granting access to your property, meet during daylight hours for a first visit where practical, and never share financial account information, wire funds, or make an unusual payment (such as gift cards) at a Contractor’s request. HammerDuck is not present at any site visit or job and cannot prevent or respond in real time to a scam, a payment dispute, or unsafe conduct between you and a Contractor; report a concern to customerservice@hammerduck.com and, where appropriate, to local law enforcement.

10. No Fees for Customers

HammerDuck does not charge Customers to post projects, receive bids, message Contractors, schedule visits, or leave reviews, and never asks a Customer for payment card information. If you are ever asked to pay HammerDuck directly for any of these actions, do not do so and report it to customerservice@hammerduck.com immediately.

11. Your Account

You may close your account at any time by e-mailing customerservice@hammerduck.com. A completed or cancelled project cannot be reopened. The eligibility, conduct, content, and enforcement rules in the Terms of Service apply fully to your Customer account, including the rules on prohibited conduct, community standards, and account suspension or termination.

You receive in-app notices when a Contractor bids on your project, sends you a message, or proposes or changes a visit, and, as described in the Terms of Service, an e-mail copy of any such notice you have not yet seen in the app. You can turn off these notification e-mails at any time from the Account card, or from the link included in any such e-mail, and turn them back on the same way.

12. Disclaimers; Limitation of Liability

The disclaimers and limitation of liability in the Terms of Service apply in full to your use of the Platform as a Customer. HAMMERDUCK MAKES NO WARRANTY REGARDING ANY CONTRACTOR’S LICENSING, INSURANCE, IDENTITY, QUALIFICATIONS, OR WORKMANSHIP, AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOSS, DAMAGE, OR DISPUTE ARISING FROM WORK PERFORMED OR NOT PERFORMED BY A CONTRACTOR YOU FOUND THROUGH THE PLATFORM.

13. Governing Law; Contact

These Customer Terms are governed by the dispute-resolution, governing-law, and venue provisions of the Terms of Service. Questions may be sent to customerservice@hammerduck.com.
